2023 GRANT RECIPIENTS
October 2, 2023
We are thrilled to announce our 2023 Grantees! Members voted online to choose the organizations. Below are the details on the votes and the worthy organizations to whom we will be donating this year.
ABOUT OUR GRANTEES
ETHOS LITERACY
https://www.ethosliteracy.org/
Mission: The mission of Ethos Literacy is to provide free literacy instruction to adults and teens who have left school and who want to secure a better future for themselves, their children and their community by learning to read, write and speak English
Target Population: Adults and teens (age 16 and over). Three-quarters of the clients are women, and over 80% of them are mothers raising children. Last year they served 148 people.
Project Description: Increase capacity by converting a part-time position to full-time. By making the Intake Coordinator position full-time, we will be able to shift intake and assessment duties from the Program Director who can then devote more time to supporting tutors and develop more small-group classes of 2-5 students.
Grant Request: $11,700 for Intake Coordinator salary support. $11,700 awarded.
ENCUENTRO
https://encuentronm.org/home/
Mission: To transform New Mexico into a thriving community for all of its residents by engaging with Latinx immigrants in educational and career opportunities that build skills for social and economic justice.
Target Population: Encuentro recognizes the barriers immigrants face in the USA and as such, our educational and career development programs address the realities of low-income, low-literacy, primarily female, Latine immigrant working parents and adults with limiting English language who may not qualify for traditional employment pathways.
Project Description: Teacher salaries for adult literacy programs that address employment barriers and language barriers that interfere with the ability of parents to support their children's education.
Grant Request: $15,000 for teacher salary support. $8,300 awarded.
Thank you to all of our members who voted to make an impact for these organizations. An extra thank you also goes to the members of our grants committee for their hard work in identifying and reporting back on these worthy organizations.
